Grade Level Essentials
Pre-requisites: Step 1 and Step 2
This two hour learning opportunity will build on core leadership knowledge you gained in the first two steps of New Leader Training. Step 3 will introduce you to aspects of the grade level with which you have chosen to work. You will learn about the age-specific factors that directly affect your girls and your group, and dive into the Journeys and the Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting. You will get to meet other leaders who work with girls at the same level you do and discuss valuable tips! Check out the Council Courses Schedule to register for your Step 3 training today!
First Aid
First Aid and CPR training is required of the adult acting as the primary first-aider for Girl Scout Troop or group activities when specified in the Safety Activity Checkpoints. While GSEP offers these courses periodically throughout the year, volunteers may also contact their local community providers for First Aid/CPR Courses in their area. Prior to enrolling, be sure to view the GSUSA Approved First Aid/CPR Provider List to see which providers and courses are acceptable.
Event Director
Event Director Training is a course designed specifically for volunteers who are interested in planning and implementing events large or small, simple or complex, for a Service Unit and/or Troop(s). This free, three-hour course is designed to give volunteers the tools necessary to develop events ranging from partial days to weekend-long. Volunteers should be prepared to enhance planning skills and begin designing an event.
Guidelines and Requirements for Girl Scout Outdoor Trained Adults
Troop Requirements: Before accompanying girls on overnight and outdoor experiences, adult volunteers must complete a series of training courses presented on-site by Volunteer Learning Facilitators. All training is provided in conjunction with or through the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) Volunteer Management Department.At least one adult troop representative (Outdoor Trained Adult) is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate course(s) which corresponds to any outdoor activity a troop intends to engage in. The adult(s) who has completed the outdoor course(s) must attend outdoor trips and/or cookouts to ensure the safety and preparedness of participating Girl Scouts.
Indoor Overnight
All adults who wish to become the Outdoor Trained Adult for their troop must complete Indoor Overnight Skills,which contains progression and guidelines of overnight experiences;understand how to incorporate the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, be able to instruct girls and adults on appropriate gear, and how to pack accordingly.This course is a free, three-hour classroom course.There is no cost for this training. Indoor Overnight Skills is valid for five years, and must be completed prior to attending Basic Outdoor Skills.
Basic Outdoor Skills
This course is required for GSEP volunteers to take girls camping overnight. Registration for Basic Outdoor Skills will be completed at the conclusion of your Indoor Overnight Skills, which is the prerequisite for Basic Outdoor Skills.Volunteers will not be able to register for Basic Outdoor Skills until the prerequisite has been fulfilled.
Held at one of the GSEP camp properties, this course will prepare volunteers to work cooperatively with girls to plan and carry out a camping trip, apply the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to outdoor programs, learn proper fire-starting methods, be able to build a small wood fire, and learn how to prepare a meal outdoors. Due to both seasonal weather conditions and summer camp occupancy at our properties, this course is typically scheduled in April, May, September, and October.
This course is a twenty-hour, hands-on participation course where you will experience the demonstration of fire building, and experience an overnight at camp. Arrival time is approximately 7:00 p.m. and departure time is approximately 3:00 p.m. the next day. The cost of this training is $20.00

Attention all adult volunteers – mark your calendars for a weekend full of fun and learning! We are thrilled to announce that the dates for F.A.L.L. Weekend 2015 will be October 2-4 at Camp Laughing Waters! Wondering what’s in store? We’ll be offering an exciting array of workshops to enhance your skills as a Girl Scout Volunteer! Get ready to take aim at your Archery Certification – deconstruct wood pallets and create your own masterpiece – excite your sweet tooth with handmade candy – take your campfires to the next level with new Girl Scout songs – dive into the ancient art of basket weaving – or try your hand at the crafty trend of initial art… and those are just a few of the possibilities!
Registration opens the first week of August and closes Sept 14– so tell your volunteer friends to reserve this weekend and get ready for some fun!
